What Is an Emergency?

The following are obvious symptoms of an emergency. If your pet is experiencing any of these symptoms please click on our map or call for directions. Your pet is in need of serious medical attention. If you have a cell phone we ask that you call ahead to notify the staff of the nature of the emergency so we can be prepared to assist your pet immediately upon arrival.

Difficulty Breathing

  • Heavy breathing/ Raspy breathing sounds
  • Tongue is blue or pale in color
  • Your pet is struggling for breath

Excessive Bleeding

  • Apply pressure with a clean cloth and transport immediately

Bloating

  • Bloated or distended abdomen
  • Painful or swollen abdomen with no vomiting

Irregular Urination

  • Inability to urinate
  • Straining to urinate
  • Vocalizing while urinating
  • Blood in urine

This condition is especially critical in male cats and dogs, however it can be serious for any pet.

Irregular Bowel Movements

  • Inability to defecate
  • Straining to defecate
  • Blood in stool
  • Diarrhea for more than 24 hours

Vomiting

  • Blood in vomit

Vomiting can be caused by many factors. Please call if you are unsure if this is an emergency.

Heatstroke

  • Heavy panting
  • Extreme weakness

Inability to Deliver Puppies or Kittens

  • Labor contractions lasting longer than 1hr without delivery of fetus
  • Labor for more than 15 minutes with out delivery of fetus or membrane showing

Loss of Balance/Consciousness or Seizure

  • Tremors
  • Coma
  • Staggering
  • Convulsions
  • Sudden blindness
  • Tilting of the head
  • Biting at imaginary objects
  • Sudden change in disposition

Major Trauma

  • Falls
  • Hit by car
  • Wounds
  • Cuts
  • Broken bones
