Lost & Found Pets
Lost Pet
If you've lost a pet, search your neighborhood, and contact local shelters to see if your dog or cat was brought in by a good Samaritan. It's also a good idea to use the animal shelter's "Lost and Found" services. Provide your pet's photograph and as much detail as possible. Do not forget to include your contact information.
Check the "Found" reports in your local paper or bulletin boards, and post a "Lost Pet" message so if someone finds your pet they can find you.
Found Pet
If you have found a dog or cat, you have several options:
- If you wish, keep the pet while you are looking for the owner, but contact the local animal shelter to inform them of your find. The staff will ask you a few questions, such as the breed and sex of the animal, when and where you found it, and your contact information.
- Consider bringing the dog or cat to the shelter to be scanned for an embedded microchip and to be photographed. You do NOT have to leave the pet for scanning.
- Place posters near the location you found the pet.
- Run a "Found" ad in local publications.
- Talk with your neighbors or people in the area where you found the pet. They may have information about the pet's home and owner.
- If you do not wish to keep the pet, you may bring it to the shelter
- If you have found a dog, an injured animal or are having problems with nuisance wildlife, you can call Animal Control of Palm Beach County at 561-233-1200
