Symptoms of Animal Poisoning
Many of the symptoms associated with accidental pet poisoning are also symptoms of other veterinary problems. If you caught your cat or dog chewing or ingesting any of the substances mentioned below you should watch for changes in behavior, difficulty urinating or defecating, problems standing up, tender abdominal area, vomiting or diarrhea, or difficulty breathing. For after hour or weekend emergencies, give PetPB a call. Our staff can help you determine whether your pet may need immediate attention.

Common Household Pet Toxins
According to the ASPCA, Animal Poison Control Center, the following are primary sources of at-home pet poisonings:
- Insecticides & Insect Bait Products
- Popular Garden & House Plants
- Household Cleaners & Disinfectants
- Over-the-Counter & Prescription Medications
Cats can react differently to certain toxins than dogs. Since this includes insecticides, like those used for flea protection, you should never use a product intended for one pet on the other. It is also important to watch where you place your handbag. Some companion animals will learn where you keep snacks and can accidentally chew or ingest harmful substances including chocolate. If you suspect symptoms of animal poisoning, call your pet's veterinarian or PetPB immediately.
